On January 21, the Mexican government announced new fiscal incentives as part of Plan Mexico 2025. This initiative aims to strengthen the Mexican economy, improve Mexico trade relations USA, and secure the country’s position in global supply chains.
In a significant development for companies operating in the North American manufacturing and trade ecosystem, the U.S. and Mexico have entered a 30-day suspension period regarding newly proposed tariffs. The decision comes after weeks of tensions sparked by U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 25% tariff on all Mexican imports.
The Biden administration has confirmed that new tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada will take effect on Saturday, February 1, 2025. These tariffs impose a 25% duty on goods from both countries, along with a 10% tariff on imports from China.
President Claudia Sheinbaum has made a new rule to protect Mexico’s textile industry. This industry is very important to the economy and provides jobs for nearly 400,000 people. Signed on December 19, 2024, this decree adds new tariffs on imported goods in Mexico. It also tightens rules under the IMMEX program.
In recent years, Mexico has emerged as a top destination for global technology companies, including Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, seeking to optimize their supply chains and leverage the country’s growing innovation ecosystem.
